We love our volunteers!
Volunteering at camp is a superb way to get into the spirit of summer! Sequoia Day Camp is organized, planned, and operated entirely by volunteers - such as you! Please join us on our Storybook Safari!

If you are a community member, sharing your time and talents by volunteering at Sequoia Day Camp supports our mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place, as we foster a sense of community through fun, friendship, and adventure. If you are a caregiver or parent, help ensure a memorable camp experience for your daughter and her friends, and spend time with your daughter. Volunteering at camp is a great way for your daughter to see people in her community coming together to make an enriching summer experience for her! Plus, volunteering can qualify your daughter for discounted tuition!

No experience is necessary, and a variety of volunteer roles are available from which to choose.

Peruse the opportunities below, then email us at SequoiaDayCamp@gmail.com to let us know which volunteer role or roles interest you! We’ll connect you with our Volunteer Coordinator!

Volunteer Roles and Discounts
Please note that discounted camper tuition is a benefit earned by adult volunteers and is applicable to one camper per volunteer. Please also note that priority registration begins March 21st of 2025 for volunteers from the Rancho Sierra Vista Service Unit and March 31st of 2025 for volunteers from other service units. Once you have submitted your request to volunteer, you will receive instructions for accessing discounted and/or priority registration.

General Volunteer
You make the magic happen! You are the extra hands and hearts that help camp run safely and smoothly. General Volunteers primarily assist Station Leaders in moving campers through stations. Stations are educational and engaging - think activities, crafts, and recipes - and we’ll make sure the station to which you are assigned fits comfortably into your schedule.

  • Commitment: Minimum commitment of 2 full days
  • Discount: Receive an accumulating 10% discount off camp tuition, per volunteer day

Station Leader
Station Leaders play an essential role in bringing our Storybook Safari to life! You'll collaborate with our Program Director to design a station that aligns with the camp theme and your personal interests, or you can select a station design already developed by the Program Director. We’ll make sure your station fits comfortably into your schedule, and we’ll support you in feeling prepared and confident. Related responsibilities might include ordering supplies in advance of camp and/or setting up the station once at camp. You’ll lead campers through your station, possibly with the assistance of a General Volunteer or of a Girl Scout Program Assistant (a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador Girl Scout).

  • Commitment: Preferred 5 day commitment, full days | Possible 2+ day commitment, full days
  • Discount: Receive an accumulating 20% discount off camp tuition, per volunteer day, up to free tuition
  • Plus Priority Registration!

Registration Tent
If you have a warm smile and a happy hello, we need you! In the registration tent, you’ll sign campers in each morning as they arrive and sign them out each afternoon as we close the book for the day. If you'll be driving your daughter to and from camp, simply plan to arrive a little earlier for drop-off (coffee in hand) and stay a bit later for pickup - to send each camper home with a Happily Ever After.

  • Commitment: 5 day commitment, mornings (8:00 AM - 9:15 AM) and afternoons (1:30 PM - 2:15 PM)
  • Discount: Receive a 20% discount off camp tuition
  • Plus Priority Registration!

Volunteer Requirements and Training
The following volunteer requirements must be completed by each camp volunteer prior to June 2025. If you would like to volunteer at camp, please email us sooner rather than later at SequoiaDayCamp@gmail.com to let us know which volunteer role or roles interest you! Should you need assistance in meeting the volunteer requirements prior to June, a fellow volunteer — such as our Volunteer Coordinator — will be in contact with you and will be happy to assist you!

Requirements
Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast (GSCCC), our Girl Scout Council, requires that adult volunteers meet the following requirements.

  • Register as a Girl Scout Member for the current year (October 2024 - September 2025). If you are not yet registered as a Girl Scout Member for the current year, you can register here.
  • Complete a criminal background check. GSCCC policy is to conduct a criminal background check on all new volunteers. If you are a returning volunteer, our Volunteer Coordinator, in conjunction with GSCCC, will verify that you have previously completed a criminal background check, and if you have not, or if yours is expired, will assist you in completing the simple process.
  • Complete California's Mandated Reporter Training. California Assembly Bill 506 requires that volunteers who work with children must complete a mandated reporter training before interacting with them. GSCCC will provide you access to an online training portal for completing the GSUSA Girl Scouts Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention training at your convenience. The training is approximately 50 minutes long - or less. (The GSUSA Girl Scouts Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention training Course is required every 2 years by California State Assembly Bill 506. If you have taken the course within the past two years, you will not need to take it again.)

Remote Training Session
Additionally, to volunteer at Sequoia Day Camp, you will need to complete one camp training session led by our Volunteer Coordinator. The virtual training will take place via Google Meet or Zoom and will be approximately 60 minutes long - or less. The training will be offered on the following dates, and you may choose the date that is most convenient for you.

  • Tuesday, May 6th from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Thursday, May 8th from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Tuesday, May 13th from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Volunteer based early registration and/or discounts will be honored only for the daughters (or wards) of the above specified volunteers.
